The Transdanubian Research Institute is a Pécs-seated research organisation of the nation-wide research network of Hungarian Academy of Sciences founded in year 1943. The research of the special features of regional development in Hungary and Europe with the scientific foundation of local-regional decisionmaking processes is the primary objective of the institute's economists, geographers, politologists, sociologists and lawyers. The local research staff has been carrying out complex, interdisciplinary research projects in several fields of science. Besides carrying out basic and applied research, the institute is an active participant in the local higher education.
